Fire safety installation inspections (Active and Passive)

Fire safety is a critical aspect of any commercial or residential building. Without proper fire safety measures in place, the risk of fire is increased, which can lead to catastrophic consequences. There are two types of fire safety inspections: active and passive. The firefighters or other trained personnel who actively look for fire hazards in a building, conducts active fire safety inspections. On the other hand, the building owners or managers who check for compliance with fire codes and standards, conducts passive fire safety inspections.

Types of Fire Safety Systems

Although there are several types of fire safety systems, each has its own benefits and drawbacks. But the most common type of fire safety system is the sprinkler system. Commercial buildings often uses sprinkler system because they can quickly extinguish a fire before it has a chance to spread. However, sprinkler systems require regular maintenance and inspections to ensure that they are functioning properly.

Another type of fire safety system is the smoke detector. Smoke detectors are less expensive than sprinkler systems and do not require as much maintenance. However, they cannot extinguish a fire, and they may not provide enough warning to allow people to evacuate safely before the fire spreads.

Besides using them separately, the most effective type of fire safety system is the combination of a sprinkler system and smoke detectors. This type of system can quickly extinguish a fire and provide an early warning to occupants so that they can evacuate safely.

Installation Inspections

Installing a fire safety system is vital to the protection of your home or business. Furthermore, a fire safety installation inspection ensures that your system has been installed correctly and is up to code.

Generally there are two types of fire safety installation inspections: active and passive. A professional inspector conducts active inspections and will test all aspects of your system to ensure it is functioning properly. Whereas, passive inspections are less comprehensive, and typically only involve a visual check of your system.

Hence, it is important to have both active and passive inspections conducted on your fire safety system, as they complement each other in ensuring that your system is effective in protecting against fires.
